Two-Star General Shares with Wesleyan Students

This morning, our high school history classes were honored and privileged to hear Major General Mastin M. Robeson, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired) share about his experiences and how God will lead a person that is totally submitted to Him. His 34 years of service in the Marines included tours in over 55 countries with combat experience in Liberia, Kuwait, Somalia, Bosnia, the Horn of Africa, Iraq, Southern Philippines, and Afghanistan.  He also has extensive experience in strategic and operational planning, international engagement, and much more.

Major General Robeson shared his love for serving America and believes that it was a calling on his life.  One student asked him what he loved most about his work, and he quickly said “The Marines – I genuinely fell in love with the young men and women who were willing to lay down their lives for their country.”  He reminded the students that Veterans Day is celebrating those who were “willing to do the hardships to allow us to have freedom.”  What a wonderful reminder of the sacrifice that has been paid for the freedoms we hold so dear.

G.K. Chesterton, a well-known author born in the late 1800’s, wrote, “Courage is almost a contradiction in terms.  It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die.”  Chesterton’s statement reminds us of the heart and soul of America’s brave men and women who with willingness and courage have tirelessly served and protected this great nation.

On Saturday, November 11, we will pay tribute to the men and women, both past and present, who have defended all of us.  For nearly 100 years, the tradition of honoring our veterans has given Americans the opportunity to pause and reflect on the price that has been paid so that we can enjoy the freedoms we appreciate.

Most of us will never share the same experiences of Major General Robeson and the other millions of veterans who have sacrificed their lives for our country.  Because of their determination and courage, we remember the sacrifices that all veterans have made for each one of us.
