“We started and ended our search with the Wesleyan Early Education program. We signed up for the waitlist as soon as I found out I was pregnant because I knew it was the best program in the area and worth the wait. Our little boy is three years old now, and we could not be happier with the Early Education Center over the past few years. The teachers and administration are always so kind and helpful. I trust them 100% with our son while we are at work. He is thriving both in his education and learning about Jesus and the Bible!  We are planning to stay at Wesleyan until he graduates high school.

~ Chelsea Arthur, parent of a Wesleyan Early Education Center preschooler

Meet a Teacher

Amy McNeill

Degree: Early Childhood Education
Teaching Experience: 12 years

“Being a preschool teacher has been one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs. A love of crayons, glue, and finger paints is a must … play and creating is essential at this age. Your hope is to instill a love of learning and build a strong foundation that will carry them for years to come. Preschoolers need to feel safe and know they are cared for. We nurture social skills and learn how to interact in healthy ways with our classmates. I have always been (and will continue to be) impacted by each of the children I have taught. They amaze me with their perspective and how they see the world, through a lens of curiosity and wonder. I would not give up being a teacher for anything in the world.”

THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT TLA

We partner with parents to create a supportive, responsive environment that meets your young learner where they are. We know how important it is at this early stage to have alignment between the home and school, so children are learning consistent lessons.

INSIDE OUR PRESCHOOL CLASSROOMS, YOU WILL FIND:

A Whole-Child Approach

Dedicated teachers are devoted to each child’s overall well-being, focusing on five important areas:

  • Academics. Teachers use sensory play and small group interactions to teach letter and number recognition, reading readiness, and handwriting skills.
  • Social skills. Using biblical truth as our foundation, we teach and practice good manners, friendship, kindness, and conflict resolution. Learners are encouraged to use verbal communication to express their needs.
  • Emotional wellbeing. We partner with parents to develop a child’s compassion, trust, empathy, moral compass, and respect for authority.
  • Physical health. Movement and play are critical for healthy development. Indoor and outdoor activities cultivate fine and gross motor skills.
  • Spiritual needs. Children learn who they are as a child of God through daily prayer, Bible lessons, and weekly chapels.
Play-Based Learning

Lesson plans are grounded in play-based, hands-on learning that encourages the development of a child’s natural curiosity and inclination for learning. As preschoolers move into PreK-3 and PreK-4 classrooms, they experience a more structured curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for Kindergarten readiness.

At the preschool level, core skills are developed in:

  • Reading Readiness
  • Phonetic Skills
  • Math
  • Science
Play-based learning
Kindergarten Prep

Preparing for a Kindergarten classroom and curriculum involves a lot more than just mastering academic fundamentals. Children also need to develop self-discipline and self-control, be familiar with following a routine, and know how to engage appropriately with teachers and friends. Our preschool teachers work on these goals daily as little learners gain the confidence and capability necessary for elementary school success.

Prioritizing Safety

A technology-free zone: We follow the American Academic Peditrics AssociatIn addition to video surveillance around campus, we conduct background checks on all staff. Exterior doors are kept locked while a police officer is on site daily. Police pull-down stations are also in place throughout campus.ion’s recommendations for appropriate timing with technology as a tool for learning.
